FAQs

How long will it take to see results?

You will start to feel changes straight away from the workouts. Your body awareness, strength and energy levels will increase dramatically within a couple of months of training.

How much extra exercise should i do in addition to the personal training sessions?

Most people feel they have to do more exercise than the personal training session itself. However, evidence proves this is not the case. If your goal is to improve your body composition, more exercise is not required - but a good diet is.

There is now overwhelming evidence that the increase in obesity is far less to with the idea that people are less active now, and much more to do with the kind of foods being consumed.

The body is a very efficient homeostatic organism which is very resistant to change and very protective of the status quo. Therefore the training session needs to provide a strong stimulus in order for changes to occur. When people exercise more, the intensity of this stimulus drops. Therefore one or two sessions a week are all that is required.

Often when people start training, it gives them a great boost which simply makes them want to exercise more. There is nothing wrong with being more active, but it is important to recover from sessions and turn up to each session feeling refreshed and ready to go.

Can anyone train with the high intensity technique?

Yes. We lose muscle mass as we age, so the older we are, the more we have to gain from a strength training program. Woman probably benefit the most as it is much easier for women to gain fat and become weaker than men.

As High Intensity is a safe and effective technique, it is very user friendly - no complicated coordination, just basic exercises performed properly. It is designed to give the client to opportunity to train hard without the risk of getting injured.

I am a woman who want to to lose fat and tone my muscles, will this give me bulky arms and legs?

No. Many women assume that weight lifting will give them big arms and legs. It is probably the image of drug fueled female bodybuilders that causes the confusion. Muscle is what helps us get lean and increase our metabolism and muscle helps your body function at optimum capacity. Lifting weights is the quickest way to increase muscle size - your muscles need to be challenged in order to grow. Strength training also decreases fat which results in less functional weight to carry.

Over the past decade, researchers have made extremely compelling arguments for the benefits of weight training for women, especially for women over the age of 50. Still, the number of women who take this recommendation to heart is still quite low.

It is amazing to see how many women run on the seafront at a moderate / low intensity pace, in an attempt to 'burn' calories and achieve fat loss. There is no doubting that it takes effort and motivation to get outside and run, however too much of this type of activity can have a negative effect - muscle loss. This in turn slows down the metabolism.

If you ask the average middle aged woman if she wants to add muscle, she will probably say "no i don't want big muscles". However, it is likely that women want to get back to their body shape they had in their 20's, and the reason is simple - in your 20's you probably had 10 pounds more muscle mass than middle age. As well as the effect on metabolism, the more muscle you have the more carbohydrate your body can store as glycogen in the muscles rather than triglycerides in fat.
